Adele Biography

Adele is one of the most popular and best selling recording artists of this generation. Adele songs have been making waves in various charts worldwide one after another. She is known for her incredible and powerful voice along with her moving song lyrics (mostly about heartbreaks) and outspoken personality.
Born as Adele Laurie Blue Adkins on May 5, 1988, Adele hailed from Tottenham in North London.

She was the first and only child of the young couple Penny Adkins, then 18 years old, and Mark Evans, a young Welshman. When she was two years old, her father abandoned them. Her 20-year-old mom single-handedly raised her. According to insiders, she has still not forgiven her father for turning his back at them.

Long before the breakthrough of hit Adele songs, her early career had humble beginnings. She started singing when she was 4 years old, when she developed obsession with voices. As a young girl, she performed at dinner parties, impersonating the popular British pop group the Spice Girls. Up to this day, Adele is acknowledging the quintet’s influence on her especially regarding her passion and love for music.

After the Spice Girls, Adele also impersonated English R&B singer Gabrielle. In a media interview, she amusingly recalled how her mom made her an eye patch consisting of sequins so she would look more like the artist. When she was 9 years old, they moved to Brighton, where her mother worked as a furniture maker and at the same time an adult learning events organizer.

At the age of 11, she and her mom relocated to Brixton and eventually moved to the nearby West Norwood, which became closer to her heart. Adele wrote a song about West Norwood when she was 16 years old. It was called ‘Hometown Glory,’ which was included in her debut album some years later.

Adele attended the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology, where she became a classmate of other popular British singers like Jessie J and Leona Lewis. After her graduation in May 2006, Adele became busy publishing songs and recording demos. In the same year, XL Recordings called her after the label’s executives heard one of her demos. She released her first album called ‘19’ (her age then) under the recording company.

In October 2008, Adele had a lackluster entry into the US market. Just when everything seemed failing for her, her appearance in the TV show Saturday Night Live in the same month was well received. The episode propelled the show to its best ratings so far in 14 years (the credit was mostly given to Sarah Palin, then US vice presidential candidate who also appeared on the same episode). The rest, as they say, has been history.

Her second album ’21,’ with many popular Adele songs, was released in January 2011. It was critically acclaimed, easily surpassing the success of the debut. In 2012, she won 6 Grammy Awards, including the coveted Album of the Year. The same year, she also won three American Music Awards and two Brit Awards. The album has so far sold more than 25 million copies globally, was a certified Diamond record in the US, and was certified platinum 16 times in the UK.

Recently, she is dating charity icon Simon Konecki and she also announced that they are expecting a baby. In October 2012, she gave birth to the son, so now she has two kids, first for Adele, but second one is a girl from Konecki’s ex-wife.
